Community
Grants
Background & Purpose of the Grant
Community Grants is a small grant scheme designed to assist
groups in Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding rural
areas to undertake small projects that enable their local
people to take part in community activities. The fund has
been given to the Lancaster District Local Strategic Partnership
(LSP) by Lancashire County Council and Lancaster City Council,
to spend on projects which deliver the district’s
Community Strategy. It is being run on behalf of the LSP
by Lancaster District CVS, a copy of the Community Strategy
can be downloaded from: http://www.lancaster.gov.uk/Category/asp?cat=785

local community, as set out in the Community Strategy’s
Vision:
- Addresses a need in your community.
- Benefits people in the local community.
- Have a lasting benefit in the community – Don’t
be afraid of this criteria, most things you do in the
community will have a lasting benefit e.g. if you have
a Christmas party or a fun day people will get to know
more people in the area so the community spirit will be
stronger in the future.
- Increases the skills of local people or their ability
to take part in the local community.
- Involves community volunteers.
- Improves access to community activities and/ or facilities.
These projects might include projects with older people,
young people and other local people. It could cover sport,
a better environment, getting people together, learning
etc. Under pinning all of this, the project must meet the
principles of our Community Strategy: equality, accessibility,
participation and inclusivity (as set out on page 6 of the
strategy)
